The Material

Mineral resin—better known under commercial names like Corian, LG, V-Korr, or Staron—is a solid, non-porous, and seamless material composed of aluminum hydroxide (a naturally occurring mineral) and an acrylic-based polymer. Typically made of around 70% marble powder and 30% resin (ratios vary slightly by brand), this composite delivers exceptional performance.

Combining the authenticity and aesthetic of natural stone with the soft, ceramic-like feel of high-end surfaces, mineral resin is a favorite in both contemporary and traditional interior design. Completely non-toxic and free from chemical agents, mineral resin features non-porous surfaces and seamless joints that guarantee optimal hygiene and long-term resistance. Implementation

As you can see, mineral resin closely resembles natural marble or granite, while remaining a warm and versatile material that can be worked just like wood, using the same tools. Traditional carpentry tools are therefore essential for shaping and transforming this material.

To meet your design needs, especially for intricate cuts or curved elements, we also rely on advanced equipment such as a CNC machine, a thermoforming oven, and a vacuum press. Our ORMA membrane press allows us to create all types of curved surfaces imaginable, following the precise process outlined below.

Thermoforming involves heating the material in a specialized solid surface oven until it softens, then shaping it by cooling it over a custom wood mold. During bending, the temperature must reach between 140°C and 175°C, depending on the desired radius. The bending radius also depends on the selected sheet thickness.

Unlike traditional laminated countertops, mineral resin allows seamless bonding between sections—creating a unified surface with no visible joints and nearly unlimited design possibilities.

For horizontal worktops exposed to direct heat or high temperatures, we recommend using 12mm sheets. Thinner 9mm sheets are ideal for non-structural and heat-free applications such as furniture. Even 6mm sheets are available for vertical cladding and wall paneling.

A solid surface sheet can also be made to appear thick and massive by using invisible bonding techniques over wooden supports. These are then covered in mineral resin to achieve a clean and seamless appearance.

As a solid surface material, its colors and textures are fully integrated into the thickness of the sheet and cannot fade or wear off. However, it’s important to note that dark shades are not recommended for heavy-use surfaces, as they may be more susceptible to visible wear depending on environmental factors.

For long-lasting durability and aesthetic consistency, we recommend opting for light, low-saturation colors—especially in areas subject to frequent use.

Mineral resin, also known as solid surface, is a remarkably durable and user-friendly material. It does not delaminate and is perfectly suited for everyday use. Resin countertops are highly resistant to most impacts, scratches, and cuts that can occur in high-traffic areas.

That said, we do recommend using trivets and cutting boards to protect the surface from intense heat or sharp tools, which—like with any countertop—could leave marks or scratches.

Resin is extremely easy to maintain. Resistant to chemicals, mechanical stress, and heat, its non-porous and hygienic surface doesn’t absorb liquids, making it effortless to clean. For daily care, a mild detergent or a damp sponge is all you need.

For deeper cleaning or restoration, resin surfaces can be renewed. The abrasive side of a sponge or a scrubbing pad can be used to gently remove the superficial layer and restore a like-new finish. You can also opt for a full surface renovation through professional polishing.
